MENDIP COMMUNITY TRANSPORT IS NOW ACTIVE IN THE SEDGEMOOR DISTRICT COUNCIL AREA

Mendip Community Transport now has 2 Minibuses operating within your area following our success in winning two Somerset County Council Special Needs Contracts. As the buses are garaged at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre this means that we now have capacity to provide competitive transport for community groups in Sedgemoor when they are servicing these contracts. During school holidays & half terms there will be full availability and during term time a limited service will be available.

We are aware that the provision of community transport in the Sedgemoor area has been somewhat lacking of late and over the coming months we will try to fill this gap. Our rates are very competitive. Our drivers are fully trained and are Criminal Records Bureau checked.

We suspect there may be community groups within your area that would like to use our services and we would be grateful if you would kindly bring the above information to their attention. For further details all they have to do is contact Mike Curtis or Mike Forbes telephone number 01749 330100

National Trust and Our Hills

The parish of Compton Bishop is dominated by the Mendip Hills which form its northern border. In 1986 the owner of the hills above the village, the Mordaunt Estate, sold them to the National Trust. In 1976 the area had been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The hills need to be grazed and White Park Cattle were introduced to control the vegetation. This breed of cattle has been domesticated for more than 1000 years.  Sheep over winter on the hills joining the Dartmoor ponies which remain all year round. The hills are open to everyone with little restriction. Horse riders are asked to keep to the prescribed bridle-ways. Dog owners should keep their pets under control especially during the lambing season. Website click here.
