Warm Streets
Warm Streets - helping to cut fuel bills and increase income
Warm Streets is an ambitious new project offering residents across Sedgemoor the chance to cut their energy bills and save money.
The project combines free and discounted insulation, free and impartial energy saving advice and a free benefits check to ensure you are receiving the benefits you are entitled to.
Many people aren’t aware of the effect simple improvements in the home, such as loft and cavity wall insulation, can have on helping to reduce their bills – people can save up to one third of their heating bill.
Householders are often not aware of the financial help available to them, on average a successful benefit claim can result in an extra £2500 a year, making it much easier for householders to afford to pay their fuel bills.
What is Warm Streets?
A joint project between the Centre for Sustainable Energy, Sedgemoor District Council and Scottish and Southern Energy, it offers support to home owners and private tenants. The scheme aims to help those hardest hit by fuel poverty and help thousands more save money on their energy bills.
People will be entitled to:
• free or discounted loft and cavity wall insulation
• free and impartial advice on how to lower heating and electricity bills
• support to claim the state benefits you are entitled to
Who’s eligible?
All homeowners and private tenants across West Somerset, Mendip, Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane, South Somerset, North Somerset, and Bath & North East Somerset are eligible for either free or discounted insulation. All residents can receive impartial and tailored advice by calling the freephone helpline. Applicants will also be able to receive a benefits check to ensure they are receiving all the appropriate benefits.
Some people may be entitled to free insulation, and even if not then people might be entitled to substantial discounts of up to 50%, meaning that insulation can cost as little as £199.
You can find out if you’re eligible for free measures by asking a short set of questions. If you:
- are over the age of 60
- OR have children under 16 years
- OR are in receipt of certain benefits
- OR have an annual combined income of less than £20,000 and savings of less than £20,000
If you answer yes to any of the above, it is likely that you will be eligible for free insulation. Our experienced advisors will be able to check this for you.
